SERAP sues Buhari, wants gag order on reporting terrorism declared illegal

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development have filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari and Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed,

The NGO said the gag order stopping journalists and broadcast stations from reporting details of terrorist attacks and victims, violates media freedom, and Nigerians’ freedom of expression and access to information.”

The suit followed the directive by the NBC asking journalists, television and radio stations in Nigeria to stop “glamourising and giving too many details on the nefarious activities of terrorists and kidnappers” during their daily newspaper reviews.

In the suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/725/2021 filed on Friday, SERAP and PTCIJ are seeking: “an order of perpetual injunction restraining the government of President Buhari, the NBC, and Mr Lai Muhammed or any other persons from imposing fines or other sanctions on broadcast stations for carrying out their constitutional duties of reporting details of terrorist attacks and victims during daily newspaper reviews.”

SERAP and PTCIJ also want “an order setting aside the directive on reporting of terrorist attacks and victims, for being inconsistent and incompatible with sections 22 and 39 of the Nigerian Constitution, Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.”

According to SERAP: “Unless the reliefs sought are urgently granted by this Honourable Court, the directive by the NBC and Mr Lai Muhammed would be used to impermissibly restrict Nigerians’ rights to freedom of expression, access to information, media freedom, and victims’ right to justice and effective remedies.”

Joined in the suit as Defendant is the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).

According to both organizations, “the failure by the government of President Buhari to direct the NBC to withdraw its directive on reporting of terrorist attacks and victims violates sections 5[a] and [b], 147 and 148 of the Nigerian Constitution, Code of Conduct for Public Officers [Fifth Schedule Part 1], and Oath of office [Seventh Schedule] of the Constitution.”

SERAP and PTCIJ are also seeking “a declaration that sections 5.4.1[f] and 5.4.3 of the National Broadcasting Code and their application to the daily review of newspaper headlines by broadcast stations are inconsistent with sections 22 and 39 of the Nigerian Constitution, Article 9 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and Article 19 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.”

According to SERAP and PTCIJ “The NBC directive fails to establish a direct and immediate connection between the reporting by broadcast stations and purported risks to national security and peace. The NBC is using ‘national security’ as a pretext to intimidate and harass journalists and broadcast stations, and to violate Nigerians’ rights to freedom of expression and access to information.”

Nigeria will be destablilized if Nnamdi Kanu is killed – Ohaneze Ndigbo tells FG

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide, an Igbo sociocultural association, has appealed to the Federal government to handle the rearrested leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, carefully as his death at a time like this could lead to the destabilization of the country.

Kanu was arrested on Sunday, June 27, and arraigned before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja today June 29.

Ohaneze Ndigbo in a statement released by Okechukwu Isiguzoro, its Secretary-General, said Kanu’s refusal to listen to Igbo leaders’ advice led him to his present predicament. The group advised the Nigerian government to handle the IPOB leader’s case carefully in order to prevent violent revolts from his followers.

The statement in part reads

https://cse.google.com/cse.js?cx=748c01c09655f7506

“Nnamdi Kanu’s refusal to adhere to the advice of Igbo leaders, elders, and political leaders is the outcome of what had befallen him, he made a lot of enemies especially those that would have saved him and Federal Government will never lose grip on him again.

We don’t think that any Igbo leader will stick out his/her neck for him, his re-arrest will eventually bring peace and stability to the region and averted another civil war that was raging on.

Federal government should handle the situation carefully because his large followers of IPOB wouldn’t resort to violent revolts, his trial should be strictly based on the laws of the land, they shouldn’t kill him because it will destabilise the entire country.”

Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN) has addressed the unprofessional conduct by actresses, Nkechi Blessing and Iyabo ojo, following the brouhaha of baba ijesha’s rape accusation.

The association, during a press briefing in Lagos on Saturday, June 26 said it would not entertain any form of disrespect by both actresses who tried to drag the association in the mud.

Speaking at the briefing, member board of trustee, Prince Jide Kosoko said the association is aware of the derogatory statements made by Iyabo Ojo against the Association and the industry as a whole noting that will not take further insults.

“The attention of the Board of Trustees of TAMPAN and Elders of the Motion Picture Industry, especially of the Yoruba sector, have been drawn to the malicious damages being done to our sector by some unruly individuals that lack any iota of discipline and seeming to feel to be above the law.

As you may be aware, certain unpleasant things have happened lately that has dragged the name of our association, TAMPAN in particular and the industry in general in the mud, which in totality are against what we stand for as individuals and as a group of professionals.
“We particularly observe the continuous derogatory statements made by Iyabo Ojo against the Association and the industry as a whole.
“Please note that we are not against her stand on the issue of alleged rape or sexual assault as the case maybe, which the Association and individuals have equally condemned at one time or the other, as we believe only a person without conscience will support rape or sexual assault in any form. However, Iyabo Ojo’s reckless accusations, abuses and embarrassment of our sector is also totally condemned.

Unfortunately, Nkechi Blessing has also joined in the Ignoble tirades against the Association and by extension, the industry and we say enough is enough!
“As pioneers of this noble industry.

“As pioneers of this noble industry. If we fold our arms and allow the continuous blackmail that send negative signals across the world to go unchecked, the current situation that had impugned on our integrity will continue to grow to the detriment of humble practitioners, whose only source of livelihood is the practice of indigenous language movies (promoting Language to preserve culture).”

Going further, Kosoko noted that while the actresses have decided to act in a mannerless way, it would remind them of their humble beginnings when they started their career in the same industry.

“As TAMPAN members and elders of the industry in the Yoruba genre, we dare say to both Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing and others of their likes, that if you people think whatever visibility you have achieved today is not through the Yoruba sector of the Nigerian motion picture industry, you should, at least realise that the industry gave you the enabling environment for whatever you may have become today.
“Without the platform God gave

https://cse.google.com/cse.js?cx=748c01c09655f7506

Without the platform God gave you and many others of your likes through us to climb up the ladder and express your creativity, you may not be this visible today. Though, we keep thanking God for what you have become, because it is a testament to the efficacy of our industry and the platform we all belong to, we nevertheless say enough of this new culture of insults, derogatory comments and name calling!
“When we were building the Industry, we never thought a time like this will come when those we trained will jettison the culture of respect. Our sector in the Nigeria motion picture industry is built on the Yoruba culture of respect and reference for those ahead of you and that has to be strictly adhered to, because that’s who we are.

“It is our desire that everyone continue to pursue their respective programs without necessarily blackmailing others, as we pray that we will not get into a situation where we are forced to take to Legal means to defend our integrity.
“And for those who have said or thinking of saying to hell with the Yoruba sector of the Nigeria motion picture industry, please kindly take note that the entire Nollywood is one, even as some of us here are active players across board. An offense against one is an offense against others, as we will get other associations involved in tackling any further infringement on our rules and shared values. None of these infringements will henceforth go without repercussions.”

From the generation in the Bible to this 21st century. Sex has been the easiest and fastest means of destruction for men. Great men go down like chickens because of sexual urge. Men deny competent women positions, contracts, sponsorships, favors….and this list goes on….because of sexual urge. I repeat! Any man that has control over this, has really solved 80% of his problems on earth.

You can’t be securing the bags and loose your offsprings. God help us to parent better, bad parenting is a big problem. The society we want starts from what we are breeding in our homes. The hidden truth behind Prophet TB Joshua’s death.

Kwaku Bonsam claims he killed Prophet TB

A popular Ghanaian traditional priest has boasted that he killed Prophet TB Joshua in a spiritual battle.

He made this claims in a video that has now circulated online.

It was said that the Founder of Synagogue, Church of All Nations (SCOAN), died on Saturday, May 5, 2021 – one week before his 58th birthday.

What a sad news but the surprising part is that while many are mourning over Prophet TB Joshua’s death, several others are excited as some have even accused him of misleading his followers with his controversial teachings, healings and miracles.

For Kwaku Bosam, it’s time for jubilation because he has defeated TB Joshua in a spiritual battle.

https://cse.google.com/cse.js?cx=748c01c09655f7506

In the circulating video on social media, he said that he gave prophet TB Joshua 10yr ultimatum to live after which he will deal with him.

“TB Joshua tries to kill me spiritually. He said he was going to fight me in the spiritual realm after I accused him of killing Late President John Atta Mills. When I said this many people came after me for attacking a man of God.

I gave him 10year ultimatum that I will show him that only God can judge me in this earth. We went into a spiritual contest and I won the battle.
