workplace protection laws. Female employees described a “frat boy” culture, the lawsuit said.

Activision denied the allegations claiming they
were “distorted and in many cases false”.
On Tuesday. Activision’s CEO said the initial
response had been “tone-deaf. Employees protested outside the company’s campus in Irvine on Wednesday. Some were pictured holding signs that read “women’s voices

On social media, a number of gamers said they

It included accusations of drunken harassment
of female employees by male colleagues or
supervisors, a culture of ignoring complaints
and retaliation against women who made them,
and widespread discrimination against women
in areas such as equal pay and promotion opportunity. The lawsuit found that women make up only 20% of Activision’s staff.

More than 2.000 employees have signed an open letter calling for an end to mandatory arbitration in harassment cases, improvements in recruiting practices and ereation of a diversity and equity task force.

Chief Executive Bobby Kotick said on Tuesday that the company will “continue to investigate each and every claim” of sexism at Activision “and will not hesitate to take decisive action”.
Anyone found to have impeded the integrity of
our processes for evaluating claims and imposing appropriate consequences will be terminated.” he said.

Kim Kardashian’s label will supply Team USA with undergarments and loungewear

Kim Kardashian West’s shapewear brand Skims will supply Team USA with undergarments, loungewear and pajamas for the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics, the star announced Monday.

The womenswear collection features sports bras, shirts, vests, cycle shorts and high-waisted briefs printed with American flags, the five Olympic rings and Team USA branding.

Announcing the collaboration on social media, the reality star and entrepreneur said the Games are close to her heart, as her former stepparent Caitlyn Jenner was a gold medal-winning decathlete. In an Instagram post, she recalled attending Olympic trials and track events as a child, when her mother Kris Jenner was still married to the former athlete.

“As I would watch the athletes compete, I would grow to understand the dedication and honor being a part of the Olympics embodied,” Kardashian West wrote, adding: “Every moment I’ve spent admiring the strength and energy of the Olympians from the sidelines came full circle.”

A series of campaign photographs show the garments being modeled by various members of Team USA, including Paralympian Scout Bassett and basketball player A’ja Wilson. Soccer star Alex Morgan is pictured wearing a white Skims x Team USA shirt featuring a large American flag and the Olympic logo.

On Instagram, Bassett called the capsule collection “a DREAM,” adding that she was “thrilled to be part of the new @skims Team USA capsule that celebrates female athletes!” Gold medal-winning track and field athlete Dalilah Muhammad meanwhile wrote that she “can’t wait to look this good in the Olympic village.”

Kardashian said that Skims had been invited by Team USA to produce the items. The designs will be made available for sale as a limited-edition collection from mid-July, according to a press release.

The brand has previously stirred controversy in Japan, which is hosting the Olympics for the second time, having launched in 2019 under the name Kimono — a play on both the star’s name and the traditional Japanese outfit of the same name. The name attracted accusations of cultural appropriation, leading to Twitter protests under the hashtag #KimOhNo.

After Kardashian West attempted to trademark the name, the mayor of Kyoto, Daisaku Kadokawa, wrote an open letter to the star, saying, “We think that the names for ‘Kimono’ are the asset shared with all humanity who love Kimono and its culture therefore they should not be monopolized.”

In response, Kardashian West said her brands were “built with inclusivity and diversity at their core,” before renaming the label Skims.

Is a ‘Cold War’ really emerging between China and the US?

https://cse.google.com/cse.js?cx=748c01c09655f7506

A new generation of US cold warriors just got some powerful validation.

When Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke about China in a New York Times interview in Paris, he offered one of the most revealing insights yet into the Biden administration’s foreign policy. Blinken said that France and the US were “on the same page” on the need to defend the free world order as China gains influence. The alternative, he warned, would be no global order or a Chinese-led world order that would be “profoundly illiberal in nature.”

Blinken, who delivered a tough US message to China in dust-up talks in Alaska in March, was putting colloquial meat on the bones of President Joe Biden’s recent warnings that democracy is under threat — and not only from illiberal trends in the West.

https://cse.google.com/cse.js?cx=748c01c09655f7506

The concept of a new Cold War between the US and China is hardening into conventional wisdom in Washington. One critique however is that the original version was an ideological clash between the capitalists of the West and the communists of the Soviet bloc. The US and China are locked in a more classic duel between a rising power and a declining one — though Blinken certainly seems to see an ideological component.

Chinese President Xi Jinping, who will soon lead the Chinese Communist Party’s 100th anniversary celebrations, has adopted a far more strident position for China on the global stage. Beijing is flexing its power in the Pacific and beyond, and events in Hong Kong show Chinese repression on the march within its territory.

But whether Beijing is interested in (or capable of) waging a global battle against democracy is another question. Is Xi’s use of populist nationalism primarily designed to maintain support for an autocratic ruling Party, or is it the authentic expression of a globally ambitious Chinese foreign policy?

Either way, policymaking in Washington and nascent US political campaigns — from economics to infrastructure and from defense improving the social safety net — is increasingly formulated through a lens of inevitable confrontation with China. From here, at least, it’s getting harder to argue that the Cold War analogy misses the mark.
