“I once told someone that I really loved his work and that I would like to work with him. I had seen him manage two female artistes successfully.

However, his response was, “Helen, if I am going to work with you, you may not like my pattern. We may have to create one or two scandals for you so that the crowd can ‘follow’ you’. I then asked him what type of scandals he meant. He told me to check up on people that had about 10 million followers (on social media). He also stated that the scandal could be a divorce or any other controversial issue. He said that when I did that, I would get (more) followers. Healso stated that after some time, I should begin doing charitable acts that would cover up any unpleasant thing I had done. He felt that the most important thing was to have many followers. There is a lot of manipulation out there and some times, one cold be tempted to consider doing those things. Sometimes, I am tempted to post (on social media) some of the materials possessions I have acquired. But, I am blessed to have people that call me to order. So, I am not able to show off, and that could be painful too.”

The actress also revealed that she once lost a two-month pregnancy while on a motorcycle. She said, “I am comfortable working with guys, I have a problem working with ladies. I had more than five commercial motorcycle riders on standby. In case there was traffic, they would pick me up from any location. One day, I was going for a show and I was two months pregnant. I was with a friend named Frank and it was on that bike I lost my pregnancy. I told Frank that something was wrong with my stomach and that I was stained with blood. He checked my clothes and said I was stained with the blood of my menstrual cycle. I told him then that I had lost my pregnancy. At my instruction, I was taken to a hospital in Ikeja, Lagos State. The hospital cleaned me up but sadly, I could not attend the show I was rushing to.”

Ekiti prophet has been sentenced to life imprisonment for death of woman seeking spiritual help.

An Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti on Thursday, July 1, sentenced a cleric, prophet Olakanye Oni, to life imprisonment over the death of a woman.

Oni of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Palace of Mercy, Olokuta, Ado-Ekiti, was accused of killing one Mrs Gbadamosi Omowale, who came to his church to seek help over her inability to conceive after seven years of marriage.

Mrs Omowale took ill and her health deteriorated after the cleric carried out a “spiritual cleansing” on her. On December 13, 2017, she died.

The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe and his council of chiefs banished the cleric following the death of the woman. According to the prosecution team led by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Ministry of Justice, Julius Ajibare, the convicted cleric committed the offence in March 2017, when, “he invited the deceased from Lagos to Ado Ekiti on the pretence that he has a solution to her barrenness.

“On getting to his Church at Palace of Mercy, Mathew Street, Odo Ado Area, Ado Ekiti, the convict hypnotised the victim and lured her into his room. He thereafter spread a white cloth on her and raped her.

“The convict used a white handkerchief to clean the victim’s private part and inserted a substance believed to be potash into her vagina. He also collected a sum of Fifty Two Thousand Naira from the victim.

COVID THIRD WAVE ISN’T A JOKE,’ SAYS WOMAN WHO LOST PARENTS TO THE VIRUS

Elsa van der Venter has been cleared of COVID but is still receiving oxygen therapy at a Bloemfontein hospital, while her parents succumbed to the virus.

As the COVID-19 third wave sweeps across the country, those whose lives have been wrecked by the virus are pleading with South Africans to do everything they can to protect themselves.

Dozens of people are dying with the disease every day and thousands more are testing positive.

Among those who’ve tested positive is 26-year-old Elsa van de Venter who recently lost both her parents to COVID and was herself struck down by the virus

Van der Venter has been cleared of COVID but is still receiving oxygen therapy at a Bloemfontein hospital.

From her hospital bed, Van der Venter explains how her mother succumbed to COVID-19 on 13 June.

At the time, her father was already in hospital fighting the disease and then the young woman herself was admitted to the same intensive care unit as her father. He didn’t make it.

“He lay two beds away from me. I never saw him, I never got to say goodbye, I never got to take his hand and be with him… that is a very emotional thing for me.”

Van der Venter father passed away just three days after her mother lost her battle to COVID related complications.

She is urging people to be safe and to keep COVID-19 safety protocols top of mind.

The third wave isn’t a joke. It is something you can’t play with; it strikes near our hearts and near our houses now and I say keep your people safe. If you go to town, if you go and buy your groceries, one person must go and sanitise everything.”

With her having to focus on her own health and recovery, she said she still had to deal with how drastically her life had changed over the past few weeks.

I haven’t really processed my parents passing away. I think that will get real if I’m at home.”

South Africa is in the grips of the worst wave of the virus and medical facilities are buckling under enormous pressure.

South Africa’s former President Jacob Zuma has been sentenced to 15 months in prison by the country’s highest court.

https://cse.google.com/cse.js?cx=748c01c09655f7506

Former South African president, Jacob Zuma has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after being found guilty for defying a court order to appear before an inquiry probing wide-ranging allegations of corruption during his tenure from 2009 to 2018.

This is the first time in South Africa’s history that a former president has been sentenced to prison.

Zuma, who wasn’t present for the ruling on Tuesday, June 29, was ordered to hand himself over within five days to a police station in his hometown of Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal province or in Johannesburg.

Back in January, the Constitutional Court ruled that Zuma had to respond to questions from a judicial commission headed by Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo. But the 79-year-old former intelligence operative accused the court and Zondo of bias, walked out of one scheduled panel hearing in November, and boycotted another in February.

The panel responded by filing contempt charges against him.

“The Constitutional Court can do nothing but conclude that Mr. Zuma is guilty of the crime of contempt of court,” acting Chief Justice Sisi Khampepe said in a ruling in Johannesburg on Tuesday. “Mr. Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is sentenced to undergo 15 months imprisonment.”

According to report, the government estimates more than 500 billion rand ($35 billion) was stolen from the state during Zuma’s rule, and at least 40 witnesses who’ve appeared before in court linked the ex-president to the looting spree.

However, Zuma, who was forced to quit in 2018, has denied wrongdoing and says the allegations against him are part of a smear campaign.
